Premium domain names: the group's foundational digital asset

A premium domain name is a short, memorable address that people already type or search for. Brogen Macy International holds more than 1,200 domain names in the UAE and internationally, develops them into operating platforms or licenses them, and is preparing to represent them on-chain.

What makes a domain name premium

Every website has an address, but very few addresses are worth much. A premium name earns its value in four ways. It is short and easy to remember. It describes something people are already looking for, so some visitors type it directly and search engines can read its meaning at once. It works as a brand without needing to be explained. And it is scarce, because there is only one of each name.

Those qualities do not depend on any single trend. A name that said what it was for in 2000 still says it today, which is why established names can hold their value through changes in technology.

What public sales show

Most domain sales are private, so the public record is only a part of the market. The disclosed sales still show what buyers will pay for the right name. Voice.com was sold by MicroStrategy to the blockchain company Block.one in 2019 for US$30 million in cash. 360.com was sold by Vodafone to the Chinese security company Qihoo 360 in 2015 for US$17 million. Hotels.com changed hands in 2001 for around US$11 million, one of the earliest very large domain sales on record.

The group does not use headline sales to value its own names. They show that the asset class is real, and that a clear name can be worth far more than the cost of registering it.

What the group holds

The portfolio has four main parts. The first is the destination names that form the network behind Visit Travel Group, 392 Visit and destination brands in all. The second is the legal brands licensed to the claims sector, including YourSolicitor.com and YourSolicitor.co.uk. The third is a set of names held in the United Arab Emirates, where the .ae country code is run by the .ae Domain Administration under the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. The fourth is a wider collection of international names that the group holds for development or licence.

The UAE holdings tie the portfolio to the group's home market, which the Dubai and UAE guide describes.

How the group develops its names

A name can be held, developed or licensed, and the group does all three. Some names are built into operating platforms with a concierge, a knowledge base and a booking path. Others are licensed to businesses that already operate in a sector, as with the legal brands. The engineering is done by Costello Global Technology, which builds the platforms and measures what each one delivers.

Looking after the assets

Owning a name is not the same as being sure of owning it. Renewal dates, registrar access, transfer locks and trademark checks all have to be managed, because a missed renewal or a compromised account can cost an owner the name. These are the controls any serious portfolio needs: every name matched to a registrar record, transfer locks switched on, and a trademark check before a name is developed or licensed.

From domain names to tokenised assets

A domain registration is a record held through a registrar. It is hard to share among several owners, hard to price and hard to use as security. Tokenisation could address that by representing rights in a name as a digital record under clear rules. The group is exploring this through YourBank.app and its wider tokenisation programme, starting with names it already owns. It forms part of the group's wider approach to strategic investments and acquisitions.
